As a presenter, using Prezi for my presentation on Video Recording Devices, helped me share my ideas with others, in ways that other programs like Powerpoint couldn’t. Creating my presentation through the Prezi program was simple and fun. The program allowed me to create and add pretty much anything I wanted to enhance my presentation. Presenting the project was easy and enjoyable. Allowing the project to bounce from each part of the image (the project as a whole) also made viewing the project more visually entertaining.
I enjoyed using the Prezi presentation better than other programs such as Powerpoint or Google slides because it was more accessible and simple. It was easy at any time to go back and change anything I wanted to or rearrange items or even to just add simple videos. In the end the Prezi presentation looked visually more attractive than when using Powerpoint presentations. The only part that I disliked about the Prezi presentation was the difficulty of including images to the Prezi presentation. As an audience member, I really enjoyed using Prezi. Visually speaking it was more interesting to view peoples project using Prezi than other programs. I enjoyed that after one slide, the project didn’t just bring in the next slide, but instead pops all over the project in whatever order it was placed in. I also enjoyed that videos and pictures were all included in the presentation, and weren’t viewed as just links as the Powerpoint program does. This specific slide is personally my favorite slide from the Radio presentation because the group members included facts about the radio that I have never heard before. They confirmed that the codes that the military use are so far unbreakable, and this slide led to a video that peaked my interest. This slide was very well done and led me to ponder the information long after their presentation was over. One thing that I found really frustrating about using Prezi, was that you couldn’t just copy and paste pictures from the Internet. In our case, we had to copy the images and paste them into our Google document, then from there, copy them from the document and paste them into our Prezi presentation. I would suggest that in the future Prezi somehow incorporate the capability to just copy and paste pictures from the internet. The following Prezi presentation of the Television did the best job of applying the concept of visual weight to create a visually interesting experience for the audience in my opinion. Careers & Catfish
So far in Communications Technology 11, I have learned so many new skills and the semester is just getting started. I learned to do proper research for my groups project on the history of video recording devices, learned about different kinds of careers that I can access through technology and have just previously starting learning not only about the history of photography but also about the skills that photography requires. I have also viewed a film titled "Catfish" that brings to light the dangers of photography and technology. As well I have learned how to use and control my Weebly Portfolio on my Weebly account. I had issues trying to figure out how to use and access my Weebly account at first but after I fiddled around with it a bit, I started to understand how to use it. I had a few problems learning how to properly research career opportunities and job postings, because I really wanted to just go to a job postings site but I asked Mr. W about it and he gave me some tips for searching for different job postings that interested me. They included starting with figuring out what I liked to do when using technology and also what I could picture myself doing when I am older.
This past week we began our Introduction to photography. We watching a few videos that introduced us to the history of photography and many different kinds of photography. We took notes about these videos and took screen captures of certain moments from the videos that we thought helped support the notes we took. We put all this information under the Module 2 section of this Weebly website. As of right now I am finished all of my work and have no need to finish any work outside of class. This week the only learning tools I used were the videos about photography from Mr. W's website that helped us to start learning about photography.
I have realized in the past week that photography is actually fascinating, and although it does sometimes require a lot of skills, it is also fun to play around with cameras to discover their full potential. (Even if it is just on my iPhone!) Getting to Know Vik Muniz
Vik Muniz was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1961. I think that Vik traveled to New York at 18 years of age because he wanted to further his career and because he didn't think that his hometown was exactly safe after he got shot in the leg trying to stop a street fight. He became a photographer because he admired how his sculptures were represented by photographs. Vik Muniz's work is unique because he incorporates objects such as thread, garbage, chocolate syrup, sugar and diamonds to create bold and ironic imagery towards art history and pop culture. Vik munis is most recognized for his unique style of working and his action photo, After Hans Namuth. This image is partially made of chocolate syrup.
Vik Muniz appears to be a happy individual with a great sense of humor and a real passion for the work that he does.
I think that this photo is very powerful. The colorful objects that create the basket she is carrying on her head, symbolize the weight that she carries everyday. They make the image much more busy and make the basket appear to be 3D while the rest of the photo is 2D.

I feel that this is a great way to represent this famous Albert Einstein photo, because many people thought him to be mad and insane, while some others thought he was an absolute genius. The colors of this photo create the option of interpretation. The materials used frame him as creative and expressive, or fun and crazy, depending on your interpretation.

This representation of Marilyn Monroe is fascinating. It shows the depth of her as an individual as well as the look of despair that her facial expressions are giving off. I feel as if this image also symbolizes how there are multiple different layers to every individual and their emotions/feelings.

This image of a woman lying with missing clothing looks as if she is tired and depressed, perhaps from the busy life she is leading, which is represented by the thousands of colored toys surrounding her in the background. I think the photo is very interesting and is very well formed by the different levels of colors used.

I like that in all of Vik Muniz's art work and photography, he not only incorporates many different materials but he also makes the artwork and photography very personal, not only for him, but also the people he is doing it of and for. For example the photograph above of the woman carring the basket.
Rules of Composition & I Spy
These past few weeks I have been learning about many different rules of photographic composition. These have enabled me to use these new skills and apply them to my photography. For example some of the rules of composition include the rule of thirds, Intentional motion blur, Symmetry, etc. Most of these rules/skills I was able to understand and use pretty quickly, but there were few rules that were a little harder to understand. Such as Intentional motion blur because it was difficult to understand how to work the settings to obtain a really great image of intentional motion blur.I learned how to do this skill skill by researching and playing around with different setting on the iPads.
So far I have completed the rules of competition information and my I-Spy project in which I took a photo shoot of the required photos, attached music from freeplaymusic.com to my animoto video. I have not had to do anything/finish anything out of class except for redoing a few pictures during one of my lunchtimes because I knew that I could take better pictures. By accomplishing these past projects, I used the tools that Mr.W had made accessible for me to use. I occasionally searched up how to do certain things on google, but I never viewed any prezis, slideshows, etc.
As of this week I only have one big question; Why is it possible to view an amazing image/view but when trying to photograph that image the product resembles nothing of the flawless view you had seen? Whenever I try to save a beautiful image through a regular lens, usually my iPhone (not a special camera) the image comes out blurry, fuzzy, pixely. It doesn't really seem fair. I will definitely be taking the rules of composition with me whenever I try to capture a certain image on my own. I now realize that regular pictures can be viewed in beautiful, amazing ways when captured the right way. Smartphone Photography
The original image gives the impression of the wonder the child has. He is amazingly gripping the bubble in front of him, and the look the child has in his two different colored eyes is sheer wonder and curiosity. This is a wonderfully captioned photo.

The app that I think made the most dramatic change in the emotional appeal of the picture was ipiccy.com. Using this app, the picture of the young child was transformed and is now able to tell a completely different story. The boy is fascinated by the bubble and perhaps by the reflection he sees of himself in it. Certain features in the photo are vey distinct such as his lips, eyes and hair. The picture is subject to the rule of thirds, as the child covers two thirds of the picture and his facial features draw your eyes to the vertexs of the image.
#RememberThem
This event (the Battle of Vimy Ridge) impacted me because it helped me to understand just how important Canada is, and was in WWII. This makes me feel really good knowing that my own country worked really hard and risked their lives so that I can live the way I do today. I am very thankful.
Photo Editing: Colour, Intermediate, Self-Portrait Draft/Final
In this unit of the Communications Technology Course, I have been practicing and experiencing how to edit photos using Photoshop CS6 Software on my Mac computer at school. I have completed 3 major assessments for this unit. The first being the Colour Assignment where I used CMYK and RGB color modes to colorize certain photographs from the internet. The second assignment was the Intermediate Tutorials where I was to create 3 revised photos, one by mixing Photoshop layers, another by using adjustment layers and the last by refining selection edges. The final project assigned for this unit was a self portrait photo composite. I was to create a refined self-portrait that expressed a particular idea. Mine was created using a gothic theme, featuring Little Red Riding Hood and the big bad wolf.
Photoshop CS6 Workshop is a difficult system to use and learn about. I quickly understood how to use some of the simpler tools like the quick select tool. A lot about that program is very difficult to pick up though. There are also shortcuts that I was able to use to try and make my Photoshop CS6 experience slightly better, but it was also a hassle to try and remember them all. There was quite a few times that I found myself researching online how to preform certain actions. specifically online Photoshop CS6 help lines. I will definitely be trying to pursue this option further because it is a fascinating and a useful thing to know how to use. It will be difficult as I don't have the Photoshop software currently, but I will definitely try to get it in the future. Final Reflection - Process Exam
Personally, the most important connection between communication and technology is evolution. Not only are we now able to communicate in more ways than there was ever believed to be, but the control we possess at our fingertips is incredible. Before the internet existed it took days or weeks at a time to communicate with another via the post office. But now, entering the year of 2016, it takes mere seconds to send a text message to a friend living halfway across the world. A few weeks ago, I decided to send my friend living in Ontario, a birthday care package. It took two and a half weeks for it to get to where she lives in Ontario. Whereas the moment she received the package, she decided to take a video of her getting it and opening it so that I could see her reaction. Two and a half weeks it took for her to receive the package, yet less than a minute for her to take a video and send it to me. The use of technology and how it has advanced our ways of communicating with one another is absolutely incredible. Just by activating an artificial intelligence robot (known as Siri) inside of your cell phone, you can instantly know who invented the eraser, or what Kim Kardashian had for breakfast that morning. The evolution of technology has just begun and we have already come so far. It is incredible to wonder what else is to come.
One of the greatest challenges I have had to face in this course in order to learn effectively for myself has been to keep from getting distracted. It is very difficult to stay focused when you are sitting in front of a computer screen that allows you to access so much at your fingertips. For example, during the process of the photoshop unit, I got distracted quite frequently. Photoshop CS6 Workshop is a very complex program and has many fascinating features that are available. So naturally while using the program, I obviously wanted to try them all out and see what they all did. Doing this, I frequently found myself off topic and getting very distracted. The only way I was able to focus was by reminding myself that once I was finished and pleased with the final outcome, I could play around a little bit more and do whatever I wanted for 5-10 minutes before getting back to the next assignment/project. I get distracted very easily and very frequently. There are few things that I have in life that I find it impossible to get distracted in because they are too enjoyable. Sadly, this course did have some unenjoyable work within the outline, making it easier for me to get distracted or start daydreaming in my own world. Leaving this course, I will have a much greater knowledge of how important citing images and information is. Until I started this course I would usually cite my sources but I never really spent much time worrying about it making sure I didn't forget to cite anything, but now I understand just how important it is to cite my sources. This will help me in the future especially for any upcoming courses in school and even after I advance form high school. I realize that citing is not just about letting people know where I got my information from, but also reassuring the people that I am taking information from, knows that I am not stealing their information, but borrowing. I will never again forget to cite a source. For the students who are planning on taking this course, I will give you two pieces of information. Do not choose this course if you just want an easy course where you can play on computers for 75 minutes each day. It is a fascinating course that you can learn a lot from. It is actually really difficult in some aspects but very educational and you will learn so much about computers and how to operate them and the programs you can use on them. Also, don't take this class for granted. It is very enjoyable as long as you stay up to date on all the work that needs to be done. If you start to fall behind, then make the time to go in to extra help and catch up as soon as possible. It is very difficult to catch up once you are behind. I was absent for two days near the end of this semester and by the time I realized all that I had to catch up on, I was pretty stressed out. So my advice is to enjoy the class, but don't take it for granted. Once there is work assigned, take the time and get it done as soon as possible.
